You might be wondering “Why is my air conditioner so loud?” A loud air conditioner can be a nuisance. Several different things can cause your air conditioner to be noisy and luckily most of them are easy fixes. Here are a few things that could have gone wrong and how to fix them:
Debris might be stuck in the blades. Locate the fan blades and dust them off and search for any debris that may have gotten caught in there. Keeping the blades clean and free of debris will keep your air conditioner running smoothly and quietly.
Another thing that can cause your air conditioner to run loudly is a loose blade. While you are looking for debris and cleaning the blades, also make sure that the blade is not loose. If it is loose, you can tighten it with a screwdriver or Allen wrench.
In the process of examining the blades, take a look and make sure the blade itself is not bent. Even a slightly bent blade can hit the inside of the unit and cause a loud noise. You can straighten the blades gently to fix this issue.
Another area that might be causing trouble is the motor. If your unit is making a humming noise, this might be the location of your problem. To prevent this, add oil (SAE 10) to the oil ports.
If your air conditioner is making a rattling noise, check to see if any screws are loose. While the unit is in operation, it vibrates. The vibrations can cause screws anywhere on the unit to come loose. You can use your screwdriver for a quick fix.
