David George Reiland founded Metro Heating and Cooling in June 2009 alongside four friends who together brought decades of trade experience. Having spent years in the industry, Dave had seen how commission-based selling changes the conversation between a technician and a homeowner, and he built Metro specifically to remove that incentive.
Dave passed away on December 29, 2016, but that sentence still governs how this company prices work and pays its people. The founding team brought more than 400 years of combined HVAC and plumbing experience between them, and Metro has grown past fifty employees while remaining locally owned.
Anyone who worked with Dave will tell you he was the same person on the job as he was on the water — direct, unhurried, and completely uninterested in pretense. He wore a Metro polo fishing because he was proud of what the name stood for, not because anyone asked him to.
Today the company employs more than fifty people, operates a plumbing subsidiary, and holds a BBB A+ accreditation — while still running out of the same Maplewood shop on Cope Avenue.
The company Dave started with four friends now runs more than fifty people out of that same Maplewood shop.
